Dameneka Afrika was selected as the 2013– 2015 poster child for the Sickle Cell Foundation of Palm Beach County & Treasure Coast, Inc. because she's intelligent, dependable, far from being shy, and an excellent speaker. Demeneka is a 15 year who enjoys reading, playing the violin, and listening to music.
She believes all children, teens, and adults who inherit the Sickle Cell Trait or Disease are capable of living their lives to the fullest. Dameneka doesn't let a life threatening disease stop her from doing what she loves the most; playing the violin. Dameneka has been playing the violin since she was four years old and hasn't let that disease stop her from doing so. Although living with this disease is very challenging, Dameneka feels as if she can inspire others and that's what makes her stronger everyday. She wants to spread the awareness to those who think that this disease is not serious.
